The funding of the education and research missions of academic departments of radiology is under increasing pressure due to decreases in clinical revenues and declines in NIH funding. Alternative sources of capital must be considered in order to maintain current levels of residency and fellowship positions, continue funding research programs, and provide bridge funding for faculty between grants. Clinical faculty is under increasing pressure to support the department's educational and research goals.
This session will describe the current state of funding the tripartite mission, provide suggestions for navigating through potential storms ahead in the face of less money available, and project future scenarios for sustaining the teaching and discovery missions of the department.
